A Sign of the Times

During these leaner times, certain brands have dropped some of their celebrity endorsements. Buick dropped Tiger (though he was gracious enough to show up, and win, their golf tournament), Kellogg dropped Michael Phelps (though that might have been because of questionable "I never inhaled" pictures that surfaced earlier this year), Jessica Simpson was dropped from country music altogether (though Hootie is still going strong).

One of those most notable ad campaigns of my generation is the "Got Milk" campaign. Right behind the Taco Bell chihuahua and Chik-fil-A cows. I had friends in high school who would collect Milk Ads: Britney Spears (pre-breakdown, pre-marriage, pre-N Sync breakup), Carson Daly, Mia Hamm, Garfield, Bill Clinton (pre-Monicagate). All celebrities in their own field: actors, athletes, politicians, etc. In this economy, Milk has proclaimed a new type of celebrity worthy of gracing their milk ads: Financial Consultants. Suze Orman has now proclaimed that milk is a good investment.....for your body, that is. Don't get too carried away -- nutrient rich does not a rich man make.
