In December, Hadley's food allergies flared up again (Hadley is high maintenance -- like her mother). Hadley's food allergies usually result in ear infections and bumps on her face, but this time, her allergies caused the bumps on her feet which quickly became infected. Hadley keeps licking her paws too which was not helping the situation. We took Hadley to the vet in Atlanta and he gave us antibiotics to treat this infection (along with yet another hypoallergenic dog food).
The upside: the antibiotics have treated the infection and her new dog food seems to be helping (plus it doesn't smell as bad as her old dog food and her breath seems to be better too).
The downside: Hadley won't leave her feet alone so her feet cannot fully heal. We've tried punishing her when she licks her feet. We've tried rationalizing with her and explaining to her that if she keeps licking her feet, they will never heal (not effective).
The solution: the comfy cone. That's right, Hadley now is the proud owner and wearer of one of those Elizabethan collars. The options we had for the e-collar were the plastic one that just looks like Hadley is going to hurt herself, the comfy cone which is vinyl with some sort of padding in it, or an inflatable one which just looks like a choking device. So we ended up with the comfy cone. Hadley is not thrilled at all with it: check out the death glare she is giving us.
