Beware of the Man of One Book

So, I am a big fan of the public library. I especially like the online function that allows you to request books so that when you finally get to the library, the books are all on hold for you and waiting in a nice neat little stack with your name attached to them. It's a great timesaver. Plus, I don't like to browse libraries -- Barnes & Noble, Borders....sure, I'll browse there until I'm blue in the face, but I don't like to do it at the library.

After exams were over, I went a little crazy on the request function. Currently, I have 14 books checked out and 3 books that I have requested but are "not yet available." Without further ado, here is my summer reading list:

Already Read:

- Academy X, Andrew Trees (sounds like a fake name doesn't it): book about the high stakes in NY prep schools, nothing to really write home about
- The Ivy Chronicles, Karen Quinn: similar to Nanny Diaries, but it is about a woman who works as an admissions counselor for elementary school admissions and application process to the Upper East Side crowd (they are referred to as the "Baby Ivies" in the book); great beach read
- Love the One You're With, Emily Giffin: eh, okay
- One Fifth Avenue, Candace Bushnell (i.e. Sex and the City author): Bushnell is NOT the F. Scott Fitzgerald on the 21st century in any way shape or form

Not Yet Read:

- The Road, Cormac McCarthy: super excited to read this; this is McCarthy's latest book (2006, No Country for Old Men was before this book in 2005, and this won the Pulitzer for literature); in my opinion, McCarthy is the reigning great American writer
- A Lesson Before Dying, Ernest Gaines: summer reading book that I never read
- The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, David Wroblieski: Oprah's latest book club book; I am a big fan of Oprah's Book Club because whoever picks these books does a bang-up job -- Opes introduced me to Joyce Carol Oates of whom I'm a huge fan (We Were the Mulvaneys is one of my favorite books)
- A Map of the World, Jane Hamilton: the story of a family after an accidental drowning of a 2-year old (so, light reading, obviously)
- Julie & Julia, Julie Powell: the book about the woman who spent a year using all of Child's recipes (the movie is coming out in August with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams) -- looking forward to this one hopefully before the movie!

There are more but I'll spare you. Hope everyone is having nicer weather than we are right now!

Love~VA
