Three-ish Year Challenge

One of my favourite cookbook authors is James Peterson. Peterson approaches cookbooks with a very straight forward and methodical approach. His wording is detailed, yet succinct. I think it is from his degree in chemistry that he gleans this ability. He also includes a ton of photographs for those of us who cannot fully grasp how to fillet a flatfish (ie. Dover Sole) from a paragraph of text.

The tagline of his Cooking book is "600 recipies, 1500 photographs, one kitchen education." I dig it. Coming from a multiple James Beard award winner, who can argue with his statement.

I have decided it's time to turn things up a notch in the kitchen. My goal is to cook my way through (thanks, Julie Powell) the book by the end of 2012.

Why not a more traditional (read stressful) deadline? Because (a) I have a job, (b) Dover sole, rack of veal, and stuffed goose liver is expensive, (c) I'm not doing to create anxiety but to push and challenge my cooking abilities in the kitchen, and (d) Virginia needs a chance to cook occasionally, too.

Don't worry, I'm not going to blog about it. I'm going to leave the food posting to the professionals. Although I'm not really sure when the official start date is going to be, I'm do know December 31, 2012 is only 1013 days away!
