Someone's Got a Case of the Wednesdays

Ugh, I'm at the library way too early on a day when I don't have class until 6:30 tonight. Nothwithstanding (I finally figured out how to use this word in a sentence -- yeah that's right, it only took me 18 years of education) the hour, I'm very happy today because it is my first Wednesday where I have not had to extern!! This makes it totally worth it to come in on those 2 Wednesdays when it was snowing in the morning (one Wednesday W&M cancelled classes that day). No more 3 hours in the car on Wednesdays wasted!

Charlie and I are back from Canada. Since we usually only have time to grocery shop on the weekend (especially this week -- I have late classes on Mondays/Wednesday for the next 2 weeks),
it's been slim pickings for dinner. Charlie asked me to make "my salad" for dinner so I think we're having that a few times.

"My salad" is brilliant in its simplicity. I'm not sure how I came up with it, but I've been eating it since high school. Maybe Blimpie's salads were the inspiration, I don't know. Now, this salad really is not high in much of anything (you'll see from the ingredients):

- iceberg lettuce
- deli turkey
- cheese (whatever you have on hand -- I usually prefer provolone)
- dried oregano
- vegetable oil (or olive oil -- Charlie prefers our fancy olive oil)
- red wine vinegar

The amounts of each depend on your own preferences (and how hungry you are)

The secret to this salad the chopping. Chop the lettuce up more than a rough chop (think chopped salad consistency). Do the same to the turkey and cheese. I prefer to use those already sliced sandwich slices of cheese. They are nice and thin, which fits in with the rest of the salad. Top with the dried oregano and oil & vinegar. I prefer the Dyson style of dressing a salad and use a lot of dressing (in this case, a lot of red wine vinegar--makes it nice and tart).

I really thought just my mom and I liked this salad. Then one day I made it for Charlie, thinking he wouldn't really like it just because it is so plain, and he really liked it. Just give it a shot.
